WordPress Now Offering Shortened URL Service – WP.me
Hooray! There is now a WordPress-specific url shortening option available, and it’s WP.me. While Tiny URL and the rest were sufficient as they were, WP.me is more convenient, as it only takes a click or two to use. For free blogs hosted on WordPress.com, all you have to do is click the “Get Shortlink” button when you write a new post, a voila – you can get a WordPress generated short url. The WP.me short urls will also be available to those us hosting WordPress on our own servers through the “Stats” plugin.
WordPress says they are monitoring this service closely for spam, which is good forsight on their part. So, WP.me is not such good news for spammers, but great news for Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking site users who could use a break from the super long permalinks that have too many characters to fit into a status update.

Hey, this is very useful especially if you are using Twitter, btw there are also plugins that you can get if you are running WordPress on your own domain.
There are definitely other ways to get the URL shortening job done, but it’s cool that there is a WordPress-specific option now. I personally believe it will encourage more clickthroughs for bloggers posting to social media sites. A tiny url or url from bit.ly or any of those services could easily lead to a lead capture page or an affiliate marketing site. However, when the shortened url is from WP.me, you KNOW it’s from a WordPress blog.
I think that’s alright
