How To Create a Static Home Page In Wordpress
If you want to remove the default “Home” page in a Wordpress blog or site so that a static page can be the home page, you’re in for an easy task. When you change the home page to a static page, it will also remove the default “Home” tab from the navigation bar – all without deleting pages or making any pages private. The best part is that you can do this from within your Wordpress dashboard – no hacks required.
Who knew it could be so simple?
How To Create a Static Home Page In Wordpress
Find the “Settings” area in the left sidebar (or the tab across the top of the page in ancient versions of Wordpress) and within “Settings” go to “Reading”. You should see a screen like this:
From this screen you can change the front, or home page to a static page. In order to make this change you will need to create:
1) Your desired home page under “Pages/Add New” and publish it as “Home”, “Main”, or whatever title you would like to appear in the navigation bar, and
2) A blank page for the actual blog posts (if you wish to have blog posts on your site) under whatever title you would like to appear in the navigation bar.
After you have published both these pages, you will simply go to “Settings/Reading” and change the front page to the page you created to serve as your home page, and change the posts page to the blank page you created for the posts. After you save the changes, everything will be in working order, all with no deleting or making any pages private.
That’s it!
